The workshop on Green Hydrogen seeks to enhance cooperation between India and the UK.

Green Hydrogen : The Bureau of Indian Standards (India) and the British Standards Institution (United Kingdom) hold discussions on hydrogen standardization.

Aiming to strengthen India-UK collaboration on hydrogen standardization through Green Hydrogen Production & Regulations, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), hosted a two-day India-UK Standards Partnership Workshop on Green Hydrogen in New Delhi.

The workshop marks a significant step in promoting international cooperation for clean energy transitions. It highlights the importance of knowledge sharing, standardization, and innovation in developing a sustainable hydrogen market, as noted by Ms. Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI. She emphasized, “India and the UK share a common goal to lead in green hydrogen, contributing to the vision of a net-zero future.”

The event is part of the UK Government’s broader Standards Partnership programme, designed to increase the use of international standards in India to boost growth, attract investment, and enhance trade. The focus was on creating safe, scalable, and globally harmonized Regulations, Codes, and Standards (RCS), with a particular emphasis on fast-tracking PAS (Publicly Available Specification) standards and global hydrogen certification.

This initiative also supports BIS’s efforts under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, helping identify gaps in standards, explore new areas, and connect with global experts. The insights gained from international best practices will improve India’s certification, testing, and standardization, fostering a sustainable and competitive green hydrogen economy.

The event saw valuable discussions by policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both India and the UK. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Director General (Standardization-I), BIS; Ms. Laura Aylett, Head of Climate and Energy (British High Commission); and Ms. Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead, BSI, emphasizing the shared vision of both nations to drive innovation and sustainability in the green hydrogen sector.
