Mohinder Singh Kaypee
Tomorrow, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal is going to pay a visit to the home of Mohinder Singh Kaypee, a former PCC chief and Congress MP who is slated to join the Akali Dal. He might be declared the Jalandhar candidate for the party.
According to party insiders, Sukhbir was supposed to pay him a visit around 3 p.m. Given that Kaypee is intimately linked to the Dera Radha Soami Satsang, Beas, which has a sizable following in the area, the move is expected to strengthen the party.
A leader of the party jokingly said, “He’ll be our three-for-one.” He plans to run in the Lok Sabha election. In Jalandhar West, where MLA Sheetal Angural left the AAP to join the BJP, he may also be fielded. Additionally, he will assist in reviving the party in Adampur, which has been struggling since ex-MLA Pawan Tinu joined the Aam Aadmi Party.
Channi will be negatively impacted by Kaypee’s joining SAD because Manraj Singh, Kaypee’s nephew, is married to Karishma, Kaypee’s daughter. Additionally, three candidates with ties to Congress will face off against one another if Kaypee enters the fray, as is predicted. Former Congressman and BJP candidate Sushil Rinku was a member of the party until last year.
In addition to Mohinder Singh Kaypee, those in line include Harmohan Singh, a former SSP from Jalandhar who left the SAD to join the BSP to run against Charanjit Channi in 2022 from Chamkaur Sahib. It is said that he is eager to return to the Akali Dal. During Sukhbir’s visit to Jalandhar two days prior, he also visited Baba Pargat Nath, dera head of Valmiki Ashram, who was seeking a ticket for a Valmiki leader.
