Billie Eilish Credits Tom Odell’s Performance for Her Musical Journey
Even the most celebrated performers have off days — and Tom Odell knows this firsthand. The singer-songwriter, whose hit Another Love is one of the most-streamed songs of all time, recalls a performance at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in 2016 that he considered a flop.

“I was really dissatisfied with that show,” Odell said. “I was frustrated, and I don’t think it went how I wanted it to go. I don’t even think it was a full crowd.”
Yet, in the audience that night were two young musicians who would soon become global sensations: Billie Eilish and her older brother, Finneas O’Connell. Just months earlier, they had uploaded a demo to SoundCloud, beginning their journey in the music world.
O’Connell later credited Odell’s performance as a pivotal inspiration. “I was already a fan,” he said. “But I watched the show he put on, and his band were incredible and his songs were incredible. I credit that show as being the reason I wanted to start putting out music under my own name.”
The remarks came during O’Connell’s first UK solo tour in Manchester this April — a moment that left Tom Odell deeply moved.
