Minister Laljit Singh : The has taken a significant step towards launching electric buses and fostering an eco-friendly transport system across the state. This initiative aims to not only reduce pollution but also improve environmental conditions and enhance public transportation services for the people.
During a meeting held at the Punjab Civil Secretariat, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar instructed officials from the Local Government and Transport Departments to jointly carry out a survey for the implementation of EV buses and the development of a supportive ecosystem. He emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government is determined to create a cleaner, pollution-free Punjab. He urged the departments to take swift action to bring this plan to life.
Minister Laljit Singh shared that in the initial phase, EV buses will be introduced in key cities: Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Patiala. Specifically, Amritsar will get 100 buses, Jalandhar 75, Ludhiana 100, SAS Nagar 100, and Patiala 50.
Minister Laljit Singh also directed officials from PRTC and Punjab Roadways/PUNBUS to review bus route permit de-clubbing and resolve related issues in line with legal provisions.
He further announced that the state’s transport fleet will soon be strengthened with 450 large buses and 100 mini-buses from PRTC, along with 312 new buses from PUNBUS. The required formalities for their addition are already in progress.
Notable attendees at the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary Transport Mr. D.K. Tiwari, State Transport Commissioner S. Jaspreet Singh, Director State Transport Mr. Rajiv Gupta, and senior officials from both departments.
