TVSN Prasad Chief Secretary, Haryana , Prepared to enact new criminal legislation in July
TVSN Prasad, the chief secretary of Haryana, participated in a video conference held today to assess the country’s readiness for the introduction of three new criminal laws: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023. The meeting was facilitated by the Union Home Secretary. According to Prasad, the Haryana government is ready to go on July 1st with the implementation of these three new criminal legislation.
TVSN Prasad stated that the state government would host events at every police station in the state to familiarize the public with the new rules, all the while reiterating its commitment to facilitating a seamless transition to the new legal frameworks.
To properly manage the changes, about 12,759 police officers—including investigative officers—250 law enforcement officers, and several jail officers have received training.
According to him, the Prisons Department is also completely ready for this. Every jail in the state has the proper and sufficient technology setup, and there are about 300 desktop computers that are always available. The agency has already installed 149 video conferencing equipment in jails and court buildings and plans to purchase an additional 178, seeing the value of virtual court sessions. This makes it possible for a large percentage of prisoner appearances to take place virtually, saving needless travel time and increasing productivity.
According to Prasad, the department has successfully installed e-Prisons software in every jail in the state, enabling the electronic filing of custody certificates to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Chief Secretary went on to say that an interdepartmental group has developed a methodology to evaluate stakeholder department readiness in order to make sure all departments are ready. By June 15, all departments will send their implementation certifications to the prosecution department, which is the nodal department.
