Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a new, comprehensive Urban Redevelopment Policy focused on transforming old, dilapidated, and underutilized urban areas throughout the state. This policy aims to modernize urban infrastructure while maintaining environmental balance and preserving the cultural heritage of the cities.
Speaking at a recent Housing Department meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of creating cities that are livable, safe, clean, and well-organized. The new policy will prioritize land reorganization to optimize urban space and encourage private sector investment through a transparent and investor-friendly framework. It calls for a strong rehabilitation system for families affected by redevelopment projects. To ensure effective implementation, the policy proposes the creation of a state-level redevelopment authority and the introduction of a single-window approval system that will expedite project clearances. CM Yogi Adityanath also underlined the importance of adopting the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to encourage active private sector participation.
In line with sustainable development goals, the policy mandates that all redevelopment projects incorporate green building standards and energy efficiency measures to promote long-term environmental sustainability. Additionally, special attention will be given to preserving the historical heritage and cultural identity of urban areas.
CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted that different strategies will be developed to address the unique needs of various urban zones such as historic markets, government housing complexes, industrial areas, and unauthorized settlements. The policy also focuses on redeveloping retired government housing, old housing societies, and areas affected by encroachments, aiming to rejuvenate these spaces without compromising the rights of existing residents.
The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed the importance of community involvement in shaping the policy. The draft will be prepared after consulting public representatives, municipal bodies, and citizens to ensure it reflects local needs and aspirations. The finalized policy will soon be submitted for Cabinet approval.
