Delhi HC Confirms Udaipur Files Release Date, Rejects Plea to Stall Film
Udaipur Files release date has been confirmed for this Friday, as the Delhi High Court refused to stay the film’s launch. Based on the real-life murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, the film had faced a legal hurdle earlier this week, but now has the green light to hit theatres as scheduled.

Udaipur Files Release Date: Court says no prima facie case made by petitioner; film already certified by CBFC
A petition seeking to halt the release of the film was dismissed by a Division Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela. The court stated that the petitioner had failed to establish a prima facie case, and emphasized that the movie had already been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
“The producer has already spent life earnings in the film and if the movie is not released, the balance of convenience will be disturbed,” the Bench said.
“Once a film has been certified by the Board and the trial is not likely to be affected by the exhibition, we find ourselves unable to agree to the prayer for staying the release of the movie.”
With this ruling, the Udaipur Files release date remains unchanged, putting an end to speculation over whether the film would be delayed due to its controversial subject matter. The film has sparked both anticipation and debate, with critics warning about potential communal sensitivity, while supporters defend it as a necessary depiction of a tragic real-life event.
Legal experts have noted that once a film has CBFC certification, courts rarely intervene unless there is a clear risk to law and order. The court’s stance reinforces that precedent.
