Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh : 2-Day Conclave on “Comprehensive Development of the Livestock Sector in North East India” Aimed at Boosting Investment and Promoting Sustainable Farming Practices
Union Minister Rajiv : The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, is hosting a conclave titled “Dialogue for Holistic Development of the Livestock Sector in North East India” in Shillong, Meghalaya, on January 23-24, 2025. The event will be inaugurated by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, from the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (FAHD) and Panchayati Raj, who will attend as the Chief Guest. The conclave will also feature Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State for FAHD and Panchayati Raj, and Shri George Kurian, Minister of State for FAHD & Minority Affairs. Shri Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, along with Ministers from the Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development departments of North East Region (NER) states, will also participate in the event.
During this event, several projects will be inaugurated for the people of the North East Region (NER), and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) will be signed with industry leaders to encourage investment in the livestock sector of the NER. The Livestock Conclave aims to bring together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for the comprehensive development of the livestock and poultry sectors in the NER states. It will assess current conditions and challenges, explore growth opportunities through value chain enhancement, technological innovation, and policy support. The conclave will also promote knowledge-sharing and capacity-building among various stakeholders, including farmers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and researchers, with a focus on promoting sustainable and inclusive farming practices aligned with the One Health approach.
The Government of India is implementing several flagship programs such as the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) under the National Livestock Mission (NLM), Rastriya Gokul Mission (RGM), and the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) to enhance productivity and promote sustainable livestock practices. The conclave is designed to generate outcomes that will influence policy development, guide investment decisions, and foster sustainable, inclusive growth in the region’s livestock and poultry industries.
Ms. Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), along with other senior officers from the Department and Principal Secretaries from the NER states, will participate in the two-day event. The conclave will also feature key stakeholders, including scientists, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and private sector representatives from the livestock and poultry industries.
