UP CM Yogi Adityanath warns against halal-certified products, alleging misuse of funds for terrorism and religious conversions; criticizes SP leader Akhilesh Yadav’s Diwali remarks and praises RSS role in Ram Temple construction.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a strong warning on Tuesday against the purchase and sale of halal-certified products, claiming that the money generated through such certifications is being funneled into funding terrorism, religious conversions, and “love jihad.” Speaking at the Kutumb Sneh Milan and Deepotsav event in Gorakhpur, part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) centenary celebrations, Yogi called on consumers to remain vigilant and avoid products bearing halal certification.
Halal Certification Banned in UP
The CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted that halal certification has been banned in Uttar Pradesh and urged the public to stop buying products marked with this label. “You might be surprised to know that even soaps, clothes, and matchboxes carry halal certification,” Yogi said. He stressed that this certification, which is not recognized by any central or state government authority, has earned Rs 25,000 crore in India—funds allegedly misused for illegal activities.
Funds Allegedly Fuel Terrorism and Religious Conversions
Yogi Adityanath accused the entities behind halal certification of diverting money toward terrorism, religious conversions, and love jihad, a controversial term used in political discourse to describe alleged forced religious conversions through marriage. He stressed that strict action must be taken against those exploiting Indian consumers in the name of halal certification.
The CM Yogi Adityanath cited the recent arrest of a man named Jalaluddin (Changur Baba) in Balrampur as part of the crackdown on misuse of these funds. He also raised concerns about the lack of public discourse on “political Islam,” referencing India’s historical struggles against such forces.
Criticism of SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav Over Diwali Comments
CM Yogi Adityanath did not hold back while criticizing Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav over his recent remarks questioning the necessity of Diwali celebrations. Yogi said, “One can inherit a throne but not wisdom. Only those lacking wisdom oppose Diwali.” He further accused Akhilesh Yadav of disrespecting the Prajapati community, which relies on the production of clay lamps and utensils — symbols of self-reliance and livelihood.
The CM Yogi Adityanath defended farmers, highlighting how Diwali celebrations increase demand for farm products like oil, boosting farmers’ incomes. “If Akhilesh Yadav truly understood their struggles, he wouldn’t make such statements,” Yogi added.
Allegations Against SP and Congress on Ram Temple and Religious Sentiments
Yogi alleged that the Samajwadi Party and Congress have consistently opposed the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, even glorifying negative historical figures. He cited the large number of devotees visiting Ayodhya and attending the Maha Kumbh Mela as proof of people’s faith, contrasting it with the criticism from these parties. Yogi also recalled how Congress had once called Lord Ram and Krishna myths, while the SP allegedly targeted Ram devotees.
Promotion of Communal Harmony and Secular Celebrations
The CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the state’s inclusive celebration of festivals with mutual respect. He also mentioned that upon becoming CM, he discontinued the tradition of holding exclusive Eid Milan programs at the CM residence and Raj Bhavan, promoting equal respect for all festivals and traditions.
Praise for RSS’s Role in Nation Building
Yogi praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for its volunteer-driven efforts and perseverance, especially in the context of the Ram Temple’s construction. He pointed out that while political opponents doubted the temple’s completion, the RSS volunteers stood firm despite facing arrests and violence. “The result is visible today with the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya,” he remarked.
