The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step for pension beneficiaries as the Yogi Cabinet approved 20 major proposals during its meeting held on Friday. The cabinet strongly condemned the recent bomb blast in Delhi, calling it a cowardly act, and passed a resolution against the incident.
Briefing the media, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna shared the major decisions taken in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He informed that the Cabinet congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team and all-rounder Deepti Sharma for their recent achievements and for bringing pride to the nation by winning the Women’s ODI World Cup.
Cabinet Condemns Delhi Terror Incident
The Cabinet expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Delhi, calling it an attack on the country’s peace and security. The Chief Minister and Cabinet Members extended condolences to the families of those who were killed or injured in the attack.
Big Decision on Old-Age Pension Scheme
In a major relief for senior citizens, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved a significant reform in the old-age pension system. Eligible senior citizens will no longer need to apply separately for pension benefits.
Social Welfare Minister (Independent Charge) Aseem Arun informed that beneficiaries will now be automatically identified through the Family ID – “One Family, One Identity” system. Once the beneficiary’s consent is received, the pension will be approved digitally and transferred directly to their bank account through DBT.

Currently, 67.50 lakh senior citizens are receiving benefits under this scheme, but many eligible individuals were previously left out due to procedural hurdles. The new system aims to resolve this issue completely.
Pension to Be Credited into Aadhaar-Linked Account
The minister further stated that once consent is provided, pension sanctioning will be completed within 15 days through digital signatures. Beneficiaries will receive their approval letters by post.
Payments will be made directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, and SMS alerts will be sent for every installment. The government will also launch a mobile app through which beneficiaries can view all payment details like a digital passbook.
Major Reform to Simplify and Regulate Tenancy System
The state government has also approved a crucial move to make the tenancy system simpler and more transparent. The Cabinet has approved waiver of stamp duty and registration fees on tenancy agreements of up to 10 years.
The objective is to encourage house owners and tenants to execute written tenancy agreements and register them officially, ensuring fewer disputes and better enforcement of the Tenancy Regulation Act.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna explained that although registration of tenancy agreements beyond one year is currently mandatory, most agreements are either verbal or not registered. With this new decision, reforms are likely to gain momentum across the state.
Labour Protection Strengthened; Key Amendments Approved
The Cabinet also approved a major amendment to the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1962, expanding its implementation from urban areas to the entire state, including rural regions.
Under the amendment, the act will now apply to all establishments employing 20 or more workers, ensuring broader legal protection for employees without adding extra burden on small establishments.
Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar said that this amendment will greatly enhance labour rights and promote smoother economic activities across the state.
Promotion Pathway Opened for Revenue Department Staff
In a historic move, the Cabinet approved the Fifth Amendment Rules 2025 for the Revenue Department, under which 2% posts of Lekhpal (accountant) will now be filled through promotion of eligible ‘Chainmen’.
This is the first time that Chainmen will have the opportunity to be promoted to the Lekhpal post, ending their long wait for career progression.
Medical College to Be Established in Baghpat
The government also approved the transfer of 5.07 hectares of land in village Meetli, Baghpat district, to the Medical Education Department for building a medical college on PPP mode. The land was earlier under the Fisheries Department, and except for a disputed 0.53-hectare portion, the remaining land will be used for construction.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said this medical college will significantly strengthen healthcare facilities in the region.
