Uttar Pradesh NEWS : The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University, built by the Government of Uttar Pradesh at a cost of Rs. 268 crore, in Gorakhpur today. On the occasion, he visited the development exhibition at the university campus and also planted saplings. Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present on the occasion.
In his address, the President said that the land of Gorakhpur is full of the energy of Yoga, Sadhana and Spirituality and the traditions of Guru Gorakhnath, Shri Adinath and Matsyendranath are active in the welfare of humanity not only in India but across the world. He described Gorakhpur as a land with rich tradition of Nath-Panth and contribution to the freedom struggle.
He praised the 100 years of service of Gita Press and said that this institution has been the carrier of Indian culture and spirituality. The President was presented with religious texts published in Odia language, which will remain as a memory for him.
Appreciating the rapid infrastructure development taking place in Gorakhpur, the President said that this university is a milestone in the direction of modernising our traditional systems of medicine. He informed that about 100 AYUSH colleges associated with the university are benefiting from this and education from undergraduate to research will be provided here. Priority will be given to research to bring traditional systems of medicine in line with scientific standards.
He also said that Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha and Naturopathy have been an integral part of the Indian lifestyle and can promote a healthy lifestyle. In line with the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, “India has also included systems like Unani and Homoeopathy in AYUSH, and the government is continuously working to strengthen all these systems.
Governor Smt Anandiben Patel said that this university will bring new employment opportunities in traditional medicine for the youth and farmers and will become a big centre of research.
Welcoming the President, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this is the first AYUSH University in Uttar Pradesh, which will now integrate all AYUSH colleges. He informed that the admission process will be started in the university from the new session, and this institute can become a new centre for health tourism and traditional medicine at the international level.
The Chief Minister further informed that colleges will also be set up in the mandals which do not have AYUSH colleges yet. The target is to set up a health and wellness centre with a minimum of 100 beds in every district, which will have facilities of Panchakarma, Ksharasutra and other AYUSH systems.
He highlighted the formation of the Ministry of AYUSH since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the work being done towards the renaissance of traditional systems of medicine.
Minister of State for AYUSH, Dr. Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu “said that AYUSH is not just a treatment but a system to keep life healthy. This synergy of medical practices will help in giving modern India a global health leadership.
Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, Fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad, MP Ravi Kishan Shukla and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
