Uttarakhand CM Dhami directed that all precautionary measures be taken to protect lives and property in disaster-prone and vulnerable areas and all possible help be provided to the disaster affected people with promptness. The Chief Minister, while directing the state to be on high alert in view of the weather department’s alert for the next few days, said that the disaster management machinery should be constantly prepared to deal with any emergency. In the meeting, the Chief Minister took detailed information about the disaster affected areas from the top officials of the Uttarakhand Disaster Operations Center and the district magistrates of all the districts. He said that there is no emphasis on the disaster, but the relief and rescue teams in the affected areas are doing a commendable job by reaching ground zero immediately. All the departments should be constantly engaged in helping the affected with similar readiness and better coordination. Referring to the Syanachatti area of Uttarkashi, the Chief Minister said that due to the debris, the water level of the river has increased there. To maintain the flow of the river, the removed debris should be removed from the river bank and dumped elsewhere in a safe place. So that when it rains, this sewage does not obstruct the river again.
The Chief Minister said that the number of Char Dham pilgrims will increase after the rain subsides. Also, the festive season is here. In view of this, special attention should be paid to the repair of roads and other necessary arrangements. He directed the Secretary Public Works Department to complete the tender and other formalities for the repair of the roads immediately and complete the necessary work in time. The Chief Minister took stock of the damage caused by the calamity in different parts of the state in the past few days.
He directed to take all necessary steps for early opening of blocked roads, restoration of water and power supply. The Chief Minister directed the Animal Husbandry Department to send a team of doctors to all the villages for the treatment of the animals injured in the disaster. He categorically asked the District Magistrates to feel free to seek any kind of cooperation required from the government to make the relief and rescue operations more effective. The Chief Minister directed the Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation to take immediate action on the demand from the districts for disaster relief and rescue work and release the necessary funds. The Chief Minister directed to ensure the safety of the people living on the banks of the rivers and said that the water level of the rivers should be constantly monitored. In case of danger, people living near the river should be immediately shifted to safer places. The Chief Minister said that there should not be any encroachment on the banks of the rivers.
The Chief Minister said that the officials of the Irrigation Department should be deployed at all times at the dams located in the state and prior information should be given to the district administration regularly if water is released from the dam. In case of release of excess water from the dam in unavoidable circumstances, timely arrangements should be made for the safety of life and property.
