Uttarakhand News: Of the 379.4 hectares that were damaged, 40.2 hectares were in the administrative wildlife regions, 202.82 hectares were in the Kumaon region, and 136.4 hectares were in the Garhwal region.
Over 379.4 hectares of forest land have been damaged in as many as 477 forest fire incidents from Uttarakhand have been reported so far this year.
The state forest department’s nodal officer for forest fires, Nishant Verma, stated that as temperatures have risen, so has the activity related to forest fires.
“On Monday, 52 forest fire incidents were reported in the state, including 35 in Kumaon region and 14 in Garhwal region. Over 76.6 hectares of forest area has been damaged in these 52 incidents”.

Uttarakhand News: In total, 477 forest fire occurrences have been registered by the state this year. 136.4 hectares were damaged in the Garhwal region, 202.82 hectares in the Kumaon region, and 40.2 hectares in the administrative wildlife zones out of the 379.4 hectares that were damaged, the speaker stated.
Uttarakhand News: According to Verma, the forest department is monitoring satellite warnings along with ground verification and making sure that whenever there is a report of a forest fire, there is prompt action taken.
“We are also trying our best to increase community involvement in checking forest fires in the state,” he said.
As per the statements made by forest officials, forest fires have turned into a yearly occurrence. Uttarakhand experiences forest fires starting in mid-February, when the trees release their dry leaves and the soil becomes less moist due to the increase in temperature. These fires last until mid-June.
Since 2000, when the state was carved out of Uttar Pradesh, over 54,800 hectares of forest land have been damaged till now in forest fires.
