Uttarakhand News: The altercation started after Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead on March 28 at the shrine’s precincts in the Udham Singh Nagar district by two attackers on motorcycles.
An encounter with the Special Task Force in the Haridwar district early on Tuesday resulted in the death of one of the attackers who is suspected of shooting the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara dera kar seva leader dead last month, according to police.
The altercation started after Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead on March 28 at the shrine’s precincts in the Udham Singh Nagar district by two attackers on motorcycles. According to the police, another suspect ran away from the scene, and they are searching for him.

In a stunning turn of events, police sought to stop two motorcycle-borne suspects in the murder of the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara dera kar seva leader, and a confrontation occurred in the Bhagwanpur region of Haridwar after midnight. The pair ran into Kaliyar defying police commands to stop, starting a fast-moving chase.
Amarjeet Singh, also known as Bittu, was injured in a gunfight that broke out during the chase, but Sarabjit Singh, the other accused, was able to escape. After being sent to Roorkee Civil Hospital, medical officials declared Amarjeet Singh dead.
Promptly arriving at the location were high ranking law enforcement authorities, such as Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Doval. Teams from the Special Task Force (STF) and the local police are currently searching for Sarabjit Singh on foot.
In the meantime, the murder inquiry has also linked former IAS officer Harbans Singh Chugh, head of the Nanakmatta Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Baba Anup Singh, and vice-president of a regional Sikh outfit, Pritam Singh Sandhu, to the murder.
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttarakhand, Abhinav Kumar, revealed that Amarjit Singh, also known as Bittu, a gunman with a ₹ 1 100,000 bounty on his head, was slain while his accomplice abandoned the scene.
According to the DGP, the Uttarakhand STF and Haridwar Police have joined forces to apprehend the offender who is evading capture.
