Vice-President Jagdeep has described Karpoori Thakur as a statesman who made visionary decisions.
Today, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed that Shri Karpoori Thakur was the champion of social justice, implementing reservations that created significant opportunities for a large segment of the population.
During the memorial event marking the 101st birth anniversary of Shri Karpoori Thakur in Samastipur, Bihar, the Vice-President Jagdeep remarked, “Shri Karpoori Thakur, a great son of India, was the champion of social justice. In a brief period, he made a remarkable impact on social and political transformation. He shattered centuries-old stagnation and opened vast opportunities for a large population. He was the visionary who ushered in a new era of equality, dedicating his life to those marginalized by society and overlooked by all.”
While praising the exemplary character of Shri Karpoori Thakur, the Vice-President stated, “To truly understand what an ideal personality is, we must look at the life of Shri Karpoori Thakur. His sacrifice, dedication, and his refusal to promote dynastic politics are key aspects of his legacy. He was a national leader who transcended caste, religion, and class, emphasizing equality and fostering development. Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur made a lasting impact on the country by advancing social justice. Despite facing numerous challenges, he completed his college education and never sought personal wealth, dedicating his entire life to public service.”
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar also highlighted the farsightedness of Shri Karpoori Thakur, saying, “Karpoori Thakur was a ‘Statesman’! He considered both the present and the future. He implemented reservations without fearing opposition, marking a new chapter. As the honorable Agriculture Minister pointed out, he abolished the compulsion of English and promoted the use of Hindi in government offices, facing ridicule for it. Today, we see how visionary he was. He was the first Chief Minister in the country to prioritize education and the first to make schooling up to matriculation free in the state.”
