As part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sanjay Kumar (No. 459/SAS Nagar), stationed at Police Station City Kharar in SAS Nagar district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000.
An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau revealed that the arrest was made based on a complaint from a resident of Kharar village. The complainant alleged that an FIR had been registered on his behalf at the same police station, where ASI Sanjay Kumar was the Investigating Officer (IO). The officer reportedly demanded ₹10,000 to issue notices to the opposing party in the case.
Following a thorough verification of the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team set a trap and caught the ASI red-handed while accepting ₹8,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB Flying Squad Police Station, Punjab, in SAS Nagar. The ASI is set to be presented before the court tomorrow, while further investigations are ongoing.
