Vigilance Bureau : The main accused flees, avoiding arrest.
As part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Head Constable (HC) Nachattar Singh, stationed at the 5th Commando Battalion in Bathinda, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000. The accused was taking the bribe on behalf of Commando Drill Officer (CDO) HC Tarsem Singh, who managed to escape and avoid arrest.
An official spokesperson for the VB revealed that the arrest followed a complaint filed by HC Parminder Singh, also from the 5th Commando Battalion. The complainant alleged that CDO Tarsem Singh had demanded Rs. 50,000 in exchange for assistance in a departmental inquiry related to a two-year permanent forfeiture of his job due to a police case against him.
The complaint stated that Tarsem Singh instructed the complainant to give the bribe to HC Nachattar Singh, as he was unable to collect it himself.
The spokesperson revealed that, based on this information, the VB conducted a preliminary investigation. A team from the Bathinda unit set up a trap, during which HC Nachattar Singh was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant, with two official witnesses present.
A case has been registered against both accused at the VB Police Station, Bathinda Range. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend HC Tarsem Singh, who is currently on the run, and the investigation into the case continues, the spokesperson added.
