As part of its ongoing crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested Punjab Home Guard (PHG) volunteer Malkit Singh, deployed at Police Station City-1, Sangrur, for allegedly demanding a ₹80,000 bribe on behalf of police personnel.
A Vigilance Bureau spokesperson revealed that the arrest followed an investigation into a complaint registered on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant alleged that the accused initially demanded ₹5 lakh to prevent the registration of a drug-related case against the complainant’s husband. However, after negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹80,000.
Following verification, the allegations against PHG Malkit Singh were confirmed. A case has been registered at the Vigilance Bureau police station, Patiala Range, and the accused will be presented before the court. Further investigation is ongoing.
