Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a revenue patwari and his assistant for accepting a ₹1,000 bribe. The accused have been identified as Kulwinder Singh, Patwari of Halqa Waringkhera in Muktsar Sahib district, and his assistant, Ashok Kumar.
According to an official Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, the duo was apprehended following a complaint filed by a resident of Waringkhera village on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant alleged that the patwari had initially demanded ₹1,500 through his assistant for land demarcation, but the bribe amount was later settled at ₹1,000.
During verification, it was discovered that while the patwari had prepared the land demarcation report on February 5, 2025, no corresponding entry was made in the official register or daily diary for 2024-25. The bribery act was recorded on video by the complainant, clearly showing Ashok Kumar accepting the money.
A case has been registered against both accused under Sections 7 and 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Range police station in Bathinda. Both have been arrested, and further investigation is in progress.
