As part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Davinder Bansal, an Audit Inspector from the office of the Regional Deputy Director, Local Fund Audit, Patiala, for demanding a ₹20,000 bribe. Earlier, Prithvi Singh, a Panchayat Secretary posted at the BDPO Office in Moonak, Sangrur district, had been caught red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of the Audit Inspector.
An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau disclosed that the arrest followed a complaint from a resident of Maha Singh Wala village in Moonak. The complainant alleged that the Panchayat Secretary had demanded ₹20,000 for auditing development works carried out by the village panchayat during the previous term. It was further revealed that the bribe was intended to be shared with Audit Inspector Davinder Bansal.
The spokesperson confirmed that Prithvi Singh had already been apprehended while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. Meanwhile, Davinder Bansal had been evading arrest but has now been taken into custody. He is set to be presented before the court tomorrow, and further investigation into the case is underway.
