As part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested Jatinder Singh, a Junior Engineer (JE) at Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL), Sub Division Qadian, Gurdaspur district, for demanding and accepting a ₹10,000 bribe.
According to a Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, the arrest was made following a complaint by Kashmir Singh, a resident of Mohalla Tarkhanwali, Qadian. The complainant alleged that Jatinder Singh had demanded 10,000 in exchange for issuing a temporary domestic electricity connection for his daughter-in-law’s under-construction house.
After verifying the complaint, a Vigilance Bureau team set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered against Jatinder Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Range Amritsar. He will be presented in court tomorrow, and further investigation is underway by the Vigilance Bureau Unit in Gurdaspur.
