As part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ranjit Singh, stationed at Anaj Mandi Police Station, Patiala, while accepting a ₹15,000 bribe.
A Vigilance Bureau spokesperson revealed that a case had been registered against the complainant at the same police station, and ASI Ranjit Singh, the investigating officer, allegedly demanded ₹15,000 in exchange for providing assistance in the case.
After verifying the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team set a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of government witnesses. The tainted money was recovered from his possession on the spot.
A case has been registered against the ASI under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station, Patiala Range. The accused will be presented before the court, and further investigation is underway.
