Vigilance Bureau catches Patwari and his associate red-handed while accepting a ₹20,000 bribe.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) continued its anti-corruption drive on Tuesday by arresting Patwari Ashok Kumar, posted at Revenue Halqua Shamdo, Tehsil Rajpura in Patiala district, along with his associate Gurjit Singh, for demanding and accepting a ₹20,000 bribe.

According to an official Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, the arrests were made based on a complaint from a resident of Sheikhpura Rajputan village in Patiala district. The complainant alleged that the Patwari and his intermediary had demanded ₹20,000 to amend the ‘Jamabandi’ records related to his land.

Following a preliminary investigation, the Vigilance Bureau set a trap and caught both accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. A case has been registered against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Patiala range. Further investigations are underway to expose any larger network of corruption.
