As part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Om Prakash, posted at Sohana police station in Mohali, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1.55 lakh.
An official spokesperson of the VB stated that the arrest was made after investigating an online complaint submitted on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. According to the complaint, a police case had been registered against Gurjit Singh and his wife at Sohana police station, where ASI Om Prakash demanded a bribe of ₹2.50 lakh for cancellation of the case. He later accepted ₹1.55 lakh from the complainant to pursue this motive.
The spokesperson further informed that after detailed verification, the allegations were found to be true. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB Police Station, SAS Nagar (Mohali).
Reiterating the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, the VB asserted that strict action will be taken against any public servant found guilty of such misconduct, regardless of their position or rank.
