Reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a Sub Inspector and his associate, a private operator, for accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The accused have been identified as Sub Inspector Sarvan Singh, in-charge of the police post at Central Jail, Ferozepur, and his aide Pradeep Singh.
According to a Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, the arrests were made following a complaint by Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Mathere village in Ferozepur district.
The complainant alleged that the Sub Inspector had demanded ₹50,000 in exchange for helping in a case involving his brother. He accepted ₹20,000 through Pradeep Singh as an initial payment. Kuldeep Singh also provided a video recording of the Sub Inspector demanding the remaining amount.
Based on the evidence, a case has been registered against the duo under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at the Vigilance Bureau Range Police Station in Ferozepur. Both accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
