Rajasthan High Court rejects Vikram Bhatt’s bail plea in ₹30 crore fraud case; police probe continues into alleged misappropriation of funds.
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, have faced yet another legal setback in their ongoing ₹30 crore fraud case. The Rajasthan High Court on Monday rejected their bail plea and refused to quash the FIR, allowing the police investigation to continue.
The couple, along with six others, were arrested in December 2025 following allegations by Rajasthan-based businessman Dr Ajay Murdia. The FIR alleges deliberate diversion and misappropriation of funds during discussions related to a biopic project.
Rajasthan High Court Observations
Justice Sameer Jain, in his order, noted that the allegations go beyond a simple breach of contract. The Rajasthan High Court highlighted that prima facie evidence points toward deliberate misappropriation, fake invoices, and circulation of funds. The judge emphasized that these actions reflect elements of dishonesty and a lack of transparency, reinforcing the criminal nature of the case.
Vikram Bhatt had approached the Rajasthan High Court seeking relief, claiming the matter was civil, not criminal. However, the Rajasthan High Court dismissed these arguments, stating that the allegations suggest deliberate financial misconduct, making it a criminal offense requiring further investigation.
Details of the Alleged Fraud
According to Dr Murdia’s complaint filed with the Udaipur Police, he was initially approached by Dinesh Kataria at an event, who proposed producing a biopic on Dr Murdia’s wife. On April 24, 2024, Kataria introduced Dr Murdia to Vikram Bhatt in Mumbai to discuss the project further. The complaint alleges that funds allocated for the biopic were misused, with evidence of fake invoices and unauthorized fund transfers coming to light during the preliminary inquiry.
Currently, Vikram Bhatt and his wife remain in judicial custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are reportedly examining the financial transactions and documentation to ascertain the full extent of the alleged misappropriation.
This latest development indicates that the legal battle for Vikram Bhatt is far from over, with the Rajasthan High Court making it clear that the allegations will be thoroughly probed. Observers suggest that the case could have serious ramifications for the filmmaker’s professional reputation in the Indian film industry.
Upcoming Proceedings
As the police continue their investigation, further hearings are expected in the coming months. Legal experts predict that the case may see multiple rounds of arguments and evidentiary submissions before a final verdict is reached. Meanwhile, Vikram Bhatt’s legal team is expected to file additional petitions seeking relief or modification of custody conditions.
With the Rajasthan High Court rejecting the bail plea, the case remains under active judicial scrutiny, highlighting the seriousness of allegations of financial impropriety against high-profile individuals in the entertainment sector.
