Vivo X500 series is launching in China in September with Zeiss cameras, 17EV dynamic range, 4K 240fps video and advanced OIS.

Vivo has officially confirmed that its next-generation Vivo X500 series will launch in China in September. The upcoming lineup is expected to focus heavily on camera performance, with the Pro models tipped to bring significant improvements in photography, video recording and image stabilisation.

The new range is expected to include three smartphones—the Vivo X500, Vivo X500 Pro and Vivo X500 Pro Max. Interestingly, Vivo appears to be skipping the X400 name and moving directly from the X300 generation to the X500 branding.

Why Vivo Is Skipping the X400 Name

The decision to move from X300 to X500 is reportedly linked to tetraphobia, a cultural preference in parts of East Asia where the number four is often avoided. The reason is that the pronunciation of the number can sound similar to the word associated with death in some Chinese dialects.

With the new naming strategy, Vivo is positioning its upcoming flagship lineup as a major step forward from the existing X-series generation.

Vivo X500 Series to Focus on Camera and Video

Camera technology is expected to be the biggest highlight of the Vivo X500 series. Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao has indicated that the company is preparing substantial camera improvements, particularly in mobile video recording.

The Pro models are expected to feature a new Zeiss Super Dynamic main camera, developed through collaboration between Vivo’s BluePrint imaging team and Sony.

At the centre of the camera system is reportedly the new BluePrint Guangyu 900 sensor. It is a 50-megapixel sensor measuring 1/1.28-inch and is designed to capture more information across both bright and dark portions of an image.

17EV Dynamic Range Could Be a Major Highlight

Vivo claims that the new sensor can achieve up to 17EV of dynamic range, which the company describes as an industry-leading figure.

A wider dynamic range can be particularly useful in challenging lighting situations. For example, when a person is photographed against a bright sky or strong light source, the camera can potentially preserve more detail in both the highlights and shadows.

The same imaging technology is expected to benefit video recording as well. Vivo says individual video frames will be able to retain greater detail across bright and darker areas.

4K Slow Motion and HDR Video

Video capabilities are another major area of focus for the Vivo X500 series. The Pro models are expected to support 4K recording at 240fps for slow-motion footage.

The phones are also tipped to support 4K 120fps HDR video with direct HDR output. These features could make the upcoming devices particularly appealing to users who regularly shoot cinematic or high-frame-rate videos using smartphones.

Advanced OIS for Better Stabilisation

The main camera on the Pro models is also expected to feature 3-degree optical image stabilisation (OIS). Vivo says the system is designed to deliver stabilisation comparable to a gimbal.

The Vivo X500 series is also expected to support CIPA 7.0 professional stabilisation technology. This could help users capture smoother photographs and videos without depending on an external stabilising device.

Vivo has placed particular emphasis on the 3-degree OIS system in the expected X500 Pro Max, suggesting that the top-end model could receive the most advanced imaging hardware in the lineup.

200MP Telephoto Camera Could Return

More information about the upcoming phones has also emerged from tipster Digital Chat Station. According to the leak, the lineup carries the internal codename “Thanos 500” and could inherit the 200-megapixel telephoto camera used in the Vivo X300 Ultra.

If this information proves accurate, the telephoto system could become another major selling point of the upcoming flagship phones, particularly for users interested in long-range photography and detailed zoom shots.

Vivo X500 Series Launch and Expected Upgrades

Beyond cameras, Vivo is expected to introduce improvements in areas such as the display, software and overall performance. However, the company has so far placed particular emphasis on imaging and video capabilities.
