More than a thousand devoted fans—some arriving as early as 3:00 AM—gathered near the military bases where the singers completed their service. The crowd’s excitement was so overwhelming that local broadcasters faced satellite disruptions, and the artists’ voices were often drowned out by cheers.
“Thank you so much for waiting for us all this time,” Jungkook told the crowd. “We’ll make sure to prepare well and show you an even better version of ourselves.”
Jimin reflected on the challenges of military life: “It wasn’t easy… but I carry many meaningful memories. A kind word to any soldier you see can mean the world.”
Banners lined the streets, welcoming the stars back to civilian life with messages like “Jungkook’s voice, back to the world,” and “Jimin! Now that you’re discharged, how about a world tour?”
With six of the seven BTS members now finished with service, the final member, SUGA, is expected to be discharged on June 21, marking the end of the group’s military hiatus that began in 2022.
Analysts see BTS’s return as a potential “mega catalyst” for the global K-pop industry. Prior to enlistment, the group was responsible for over $4 billion in annual economic impact—roughly 0.2% of South Korea’s GDP.
As BTS approaches its 12th anniversary this Friday, fans are eagerly awaiting what could be the most anticipated musical comeback of the decade. HYBE, their agency, has already signaled: “We are back.”
