Doechii Takes Stand Against Immigration Raids and Military Force in BET Awards Speech
Doechii, who won the BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, used her acceptance speech at the Peacock Theater on Monday night to make a powerful statement addressing ongoing protests outside the venue. ‘Trump Is Using Military to Stop Protests,’ Doechii’s Speech at BET Awards Destroys Trump
In Doechii’s speech, Doechii condemned what she described as “ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos” in communities across the nation. She specifically criticized the Trump administration’s response to the protests, highlighting the deployment of military forces in Los Angeles to suppress demonstrators exercising their democratic rights.
“In the name of law and order, Trump is using military forces to stop a protest, and I want you all to consider what kind of government it appears to be — when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us,” she said to applause from the audience of honorees and attendees.
The protests began on Friday following ICE raids at multiple locations in Los Angeles, which led to dozens of arrests and heightened tensions in the city. The California National Guard was deployed on Sunday as a show of force amid escalating clashes between immigration agents and protesters.
Doechii emphasized her commitment to using her platform to advocate for marginalized communities. “I will use my voice to stand up for all oppressed people, for Black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza,” she stated. She called for unity and resistance against hate and oppression, urging the crowd, “We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear. And I hope we stand together my brothers and my sisters against hate and we protest against it.”
Doechii’s win in the highly competitive Best Female Hip-Hop Artist category was notable, with other nominees including Cardi B, Doja Cat, Glorilla, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Rapsody, and Sexyy Red.
Doechii’s speech marked a rare and bold moment at the BET Awards, highlighting the intersection of art and activism amid ongoing national conversations about immigration, justice, and democracy.
