New Pricing Model Makes WhatsApp Business Messaging More Expensive
Businesses using WhatsApp Business Messaging are set to face higher costs starting July 1, 2025, as Meta introduces a new pricing model that charges per message instead of per conversation. This change is expected to increase monthly messaging bills for companies globally.

Previously, WhatsApp charged a flat rate of Rs 0.78 for all marketing messages within a 24-hour chat window. With the new pricing for WhatsApp Business Messaging, every message sent will be billed individually at Rs 0.78, leading to significantly higher costs for businesses with large messaging volumes.
For utility messages such as transactional notifications, WhatsApp will now charge Rs 0.11 per message. This remains cheaper than traditional SMS and Google RCS options in India, which cost between Rs 0.12 and Rs 0.25 per message.
Nikila Srinivasan, Vice President of Business Messaging at Meta, said the shift to per-message pricing is designed to simplify budgeting for businesses, making costs more predictable. The new pricing model also introduces volume-based tiers, reducing the per-message price as messaging volumes increase. For example, businesses sending up to 25 million messages monthly will pay Rs 0.115 per message, while those exceeding 300 million messages will pay Rs 0.08 per message.
Experts predict that some enterprises may reduce reliance on WhatsApp Business Messaging and shift part of their communication to other channels like SMS or Google RCS, especially in markets like India and Brazil where WhatsApp has traditionally had lower prices.
“A change like this will require businesses to adjust their communication budgets, which are typically fixed monthly,” said a communications expert. “While some may cut down on marketing messages or switch channels, WhatsApp remains a vital platform for customer engagement.”
This pricing update follows several price cuts over the past year as WhatsApp competes with rival messaging services. Industry experts advise businesses to focus on interactive and engaging messages rather than one-way marketing blasts to optimize costs under the new WhatsApp Business Messaging pricing.
