Mira Murati Says No One on Her Team Accepted Meta’s Mega Offer
In the high-stakes world of artificial intelligence, it seems that even a billion-dollar offer can’t buy everything. Mira Murati, former OpenAI CTO and founder of the AI startup Thinking Machines Lab, recently revealed that none of her team members accepted Meta’s whopping $1 billion offer to join its new Superintelligence Lab.

According to a Wired report, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been on an aggressive talent hunt, especially after his company’s earlier attempt to acquire ScaleAI. This latest bid included eye-popping compensation packages ranging from $200 million to $1 billion over several years, aimed at bringing the top minds from Thinking Machines Lab into Meta’s fold.
But despite the tempting money, Mira Murati confirmed that her team stood firm. “So far at Thinking Machines Lab, not a single person has taken the offer,” she told Wired. It’s a bold move in a field where talent is fiercely courted and money often talks.
On the other side, Meta’s communications director Andy Stone pushed back on these claims. He said the company made offers to only a few individuals and that the reported details were exaggerated. “At the end of the day, this all begs the question: who is spinning this narrative and why,” he said.
