Gas, Diesel, or EV— The Car Decision That’s Harder Than You Think
Buying a car is exciting, but it can also open a Pandora’s box of questions. That’s exactly what happened when a family debate about upgrading their five-year-old Tiago turned into a discussion about whether to stick with traditional ICE vehicles or switch to electric cars.

The Tiago, with its 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron engine producing 85 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque, still runs fine. But as families grow and needs evolve, a new vehicle seemed inevitable.
The conversation quickly shifted to tough questions. Should they stick to petrol or diesel? Are today’s engines ready for higher ethanol blends? What if government mandates suddenly increase ethanol content in fuels — can the engines handle it? And if they choose diesel, is there a guarantee it won’t face sudden policy changes?
For one family member, the choice was clear: EVs. Beyond better power and performance, electric vehicles promise a smoother, guilt-free ride. Lower running and maintenance costs add to the appeal, making EVs a practical choice for anyone looking to future-proof their vehicle.
Despite a strong personal preference for EVs, the final decision was left in the hands of the father and brother, respecting their judgment. Yet, even after stepping back, one question lingered: how ready is the average family to embrace electric mobility in India, given current infrastructure and policy uncertainties?
