“Buzz grows over Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant joining politics. JDU leaders express support, decision rests with Nishant after 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.”
The political buzz around Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, joining active politics has intensified after Janata Dal United (JDU) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha made a statement outside Patna Airport on Friday. While Jha emphasized the party’s eagerness for Nishant to take up a political role, he clarified that the final decision rests entirely with the young Kumar scion.
“The party members, well-wishers, and supporters all want Nishant ji to step into political responsibilities. Now, it’s his decision,” Jha told reporters. Nishant Kumar, who was present during the statement, chose not to comment directly, saying, “This is all due to the blessings of the people. My father has fulfilled his promises before and will continue to do so.”
Growing Buzz Around Nishant’s Political Entry
Speculation about Nishant Kumar’s political debut has been mounting, especially in light of Nitish Kumar’s advancing age and the long-term vision of JDU leaders who hope for a smooth succession. Several senior party members and MPs have expressed their support for Nishant taking a more prominent role in Bihar politics.

Earlier, Jha had indicated that a formal decision regarding Nishant’s political career would follow the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. “This is a party formed by Nitish Kumar. After the elections, the call regarding Nishant ji’s political entry will be taken, and the entire party will respect his decision,” Jha had said.
NDA’s Sweep in Bihar Polls
The timing of this discussion comes after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieved a strong performance in the recent Bihar elections. NDA, led by Nitish Kumar as its face, secured over 200 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, while JDU won 85 seats. Other NDA constituents such as Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) led by Chirag Paswan, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha led by Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha won 19, five, and four seats, respectively.
Political analysts suggest that the NDA’s strong mandate and Nitish Kumar’s continued influence could set the stage for Nishant Kumar to gradually assume a larger role within the party in the coming years.
For now, Bihar’s political circles remain abuzz, awaiting Nishant Kumar’s personal decision and his potential role in shaping the future of JDU.
