World NGO Day

World NGO Day: In honor of World NGO Day, let’s examine the charitable pursuits of five Bollywood stars who have gone above and beyond their on-screen personas to form organizations committed to improving society.

February 27 is designated as World NGO Day each year, a worldwide event honoring the important contributions made by non-profit organizations (NGOs). This day is set aside to recognize the year-round, arduous efforts made by NGOs and their staff to better society. Their dedication to humanity touches many lives with love and support and acts as an inspiration for harmony, compassion, and constructive change.

This time, let’s examine the charitable pursuits of five Bollywood stars who have founded non-governmental organisations (NGOs) committed to improving society beyond their on-screen personas.

1. Being Human: Salman Khan, popularly referred to as the “Bhaijaan” of Bollywood, is well-known for both his charitable work and his successful filmography. ‘Being Human’ is an NGO he started in 2007 with the sincere goal of giving back to society. Motivated by a commitment to help the underprivileged, the foundation offers vital healthcare, education, and assistance while acting with kindness and compassion.

The organization works with other NGOs to promote its goals of bringing cancer awareness to the public and helping people all around the nation.

3. Meer Foundation: Bollywood’s “King Khan,” Shah Rukh Khan, is regarded as one of the most philanthropic people in addition to being a movie star. ‘Meer Foundation’ was founded by him in 2013 as a tribute to his father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan. Through funding surgeries, therapies, rehabilitation, legal assistance, counseling, and vocational training, this non-profit organization empowers women who have been the victims of acid attacks. The foundation set up quarantine centers and provided PPE kits to medical personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. Ek Saath Foundation: Established by Pragya and Abhishek Kapoor, Ek Saath-The Earth Foundation encourages sustainability and a love of the natural world. The foundation works to increase sustainability and raise awareness of the value of nature. It does this by reducing pollution. Their projects, which are frequently spearheaded by young people, are excellent examples of attempts to create a better tomorrow.

5. The Yash Chopra Foundation: Named after the renowned director Yash Raj Chopra, the foundation is committed to tackling developmental issues in the Indian cinema industry. Based on international norms, it focuses on giving vital support, particularly for disadvantaged populations including daily wage earners and casual workers. The foundation expanded its efforts by providing free rations and nourishing meals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
