Water Supply Under 1994 Agreement Framework
According to the terms of the arrangement, the project will operate under the framework of the 1994 water-sharing agreement. During the monsoon months—July to October—surplus rainwater from the Hathnikund Barrage will be diverted to Rajasthan through a dedicated pipeline system.
Officials stated that this arrangement will help ensure better utilization of seasonal water resources and improve drinking water availability in Rajasthan.
Focus on Public Welfare and Cultural Values
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini emphasized that providing water to those in need is not only a governance responsibility but also a cultural and moral duty rooted in Indian tradition.
He stated, “According to our elders and Sanatan culture, providing water to the thirsty is a shared responsibility of all of us.”
Significance of the Project
The Yamuna water project is expected to improve water distribution efficiency, reduce seasonal shortages, and strengthen cooperation between Haryana and Rajasthan. It also highlights the importance of sustainable use of river water resources.
