Prajakta Koli on Why Marathi Cinema Feels Like ‘Coming Home’
Mumbai: Digital creator turned actor Prajakta Koli, popularly known as MostlySane, has taken a new step in her acting journey by making her debut in Marathi cinema. She stars in Hemant Dhome’s drama Krantijyoti Vidyalay – Marathi Madhyam, a film that brings attention to the declining number of Marathi-medium schools across Maharashtra.
The project, shot earlier this year in Alibaug, is deeply rooted in the state’s cultural and educational concerns. By focusing on the relevance and struggles of regional language schools, the film highlights an issue that resonates strongly with local communities while sparking broader conversations about language and identity.
For Prajakta, the move feels like a natural homecoming. Reflecting on her experience, she said, “Moving from the digital space to Bollywood was an incredible experience, but stepping into Marathi cinema feels like coming home. The language, the culture, and the regional stories we tell hold a special place in my heart. Krantijyoti Vidyalay – Marathi Madhyam explores themes that are not only timely but essential.”
