As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eliminate drug abuse from Punjab, the state police carried out operations for the 37th consecutive day on Sunday. Raids were conducted at 337 locations, resulting in the arrest of 54 drug traffickers and the registration of 37 FIRs. This brings the total number of arrests under the campaign to 5,169 in just 37 days.
During the latest crackdown, police teams seized 411 grams of heroin, 1,617 intoxicating tablets/pills, and ₹34,400 in drug-related proceeds from the arrested individuals.
The statewide operation, carried out under the supervision of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, took place simultaneously in all 28 police districts.
Chief Minister Mann has directed all Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and SSPs to ensure Punjab becomes drug-free. To oversee these efforts, the state government has formed a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
Providing further insight, Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla shared that over 150 police teams, involving more than 900 personnel and guided by 66 gazetted officers, participated in the operation. The teams checked 364 individuals found to be suspicious during the day-long drive.
The Punjab Police has also implemented a thorough action plan, and similar operations will continue until the drug menace is completely eradicated from the state.
