More than 30.58 Crore Informal Sector Workers Have Registered on the e-Shram Portal
The Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the eShram portal (eshram.gov.in) on 26th August 2021 to create a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) linked to Aadhaar. The portal aims to register and assist unorganised workers by providing them a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration.
As of 28th January 2025, more than 30.58 crore unorganised workers have registered on the e-Shram portal.
In 2024, from 1st January to 31st December, the e-Shram portal recorded over 1.23 crore registrations, averaging 33,700 registrations per day.
Key features of e-Shram include:
- Integration with National Career Service (NCS): Unorganised workers can use their UAN to register on the NCS portal and search for job opportunities. A link is available on e-Shram for seamless registration on NCS.
- Integration with Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM): This pension scheme benefits unorganised workers aged 18-40, providing a monthly pension of ₹3000 after 60 years. The government contributes 50% of the scheme’s cost, with the rest contributed by the worker.
- Family Details for Migrant Workers: The portal now includes a feature to capture family details of migrant workers.
- Construction Workers Registration: e-Shram facilitates sharing construction workers’ data with States/Union Territories to ease their registration with Building and Construction Workers (BoCW) boards.
- Integration with Skill India Digital Portal: This aims to offer skill development and apprenticeship opportunities to unorganised workers.
- Integration with myScheme Portal: This platform helps workers discover government schemes based on their eligibility.
In line with the Budget Announcement for e-Shram to be a “One-Stop-Solution,” the Ministry launched the e-Shram “One-Stop-Solution” on 21st October 2024. This allows workers to access multiple social security schemes and view the benefits they’ve received through the portal.
Currently, 12 schemes from various Central Ministries/Departments are integrated with e-Shram, including Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, PM Street Vendors AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), PM Awas Yojana (PMAY) – Urban and Gramin, and MGNREGA.
To enhance accessibility, the Ministry launched multilingual functionality on the portal on 7th January 2025, allowing workers to interact with it in 22 Indian languages.
