Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini stated that the state government is actively working to enhance medical infrastructure and provide citizens with better healthcare services. Speaking at a National Doctors’ Day event organized by the Derabassi Medical Association in Chandigarh, he noted that medical colleges are being opened in every district. While Haryana had only 6 medical colleges in 2014, the number has now grown to 15, with 9 more currently under construction. Consequently, MBBS seats have increased from 700 in 2014 to 2,185 at present. The state aims to expand this further to over 3,400 seats by 2029.
CM Nayab Singh Saini, as the chief guest, praised the contributions of the Derabassi Medical Association to public welfare and highlighted the free dialysis center operating at Chaurasia Hospital for the past two years.
Extending greetings to doctors and healthcare professionals on National Doctors’ Day, Sh. Saini called them the true guardians of humanity. He said their dedication, compassion, and service are essential for building a healthier and empowered society.
Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure
He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing every doctor with adequate resources and ensuring quality treatment for every citizen. Since 2014, postgraduate (PG) seats have been increased from 289 to 1,043, with an additional 155 PG diploma seats. To address the shortage of medical professionals, the state has recruited 3,798 doctors and raised the retirement age from 58 to 65 years.
Free Dialysis for Kidney Patients
CM Nayab Singh Saini shared that free dialysis services are being provided in all government hospitals, medical colleges, and universities across Haryana. He credited the Ayushman Bharat scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making quality healthcare accessible to the underprivileged. Under Ayushman Bharat and the state-run Chirayu scheme, more than 1.33 crore residents in Haryana have received free treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh annually.
Prioritizing Doctors’ Safety
Highlighting this year’s Doctors’ Day theme—“Caring for the caregivers behind the mask”—CM Nayab Singh Saini said it reminds society to respect and support doctors beyond their professional duties. Recalling their selfless service during the COVID-19 pandemic, he underscored the importance of their safety. He added that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, strict laws have been enacted to protect medical professionals, with penalties ranging from three months to five years of imprisonment and fines between ₹50,000 and ₹2 lakh for any assault on healthcare workers.
CM Nayab Singh Saini concluded the event by honoring doctors for their exemplary service and launching the Derabassi Medical Association’s magazine. The event was attended by Chandigarh Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Dr. Rajeev Gupta (President, Derabassi Medical Association), Dr. Akash Goswami (Secretary), senior officials, and numerous doctors and dignitaries.
