As part of its ongoing crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Jagtar Singh, posted at Police Station Sadar, Sangrur, while he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹12,000.
An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau revealed that the arrest was made following a complaint from a resident of Sangrur district. The complainant informed the VB that although he had been granted bail by the High Court, ASI Jagtar Singh had demanded a bribe of ₹15,000 to include him in the investigation. Additionally, the ASI asked for another ₹20,000 to return equipment seized during a search of the complainant’s house.
After verifying the complaint, a Vigilance Bureau team from the Patiala range set up a trap and caught ASI Jagtar Singh in the act of accepting ₹12,000 in bribe, in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Patiala Range. Further investigation is underway.
