Oscar Nomination of ‘Homebound’, A Matter of Pride for Madhya Pradesh : CM Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh has once again made its mark on the international cinema stage. After the globally acclaimed film ‘Laapataa Ladies’, the feature film ‘Homebound’, shot extensively in Bhopal and nearby areas, has been selected as India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars 2026). Notably, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was also nominated for the Oscars last year. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav congratulated the entire film team on this prestigious achievement.

CM Dr. Yadav said that the selection of ‘Homebound’, filmed in Madhya Pradesh, for the Oscars is not only a proud moment for the film fraternity but also an extraordinary honor for the entire state. The Madhya Pradesh Film Tourism Policy–2025, with its single-window system, transparent processes, simplified permissions and attractive financial incentives, has made filming in the state easier. The shooting of Homebound in Madhya Pradesh and its global recognition is testimony to the state’s rapid emergence as a premier global shooting hub, showcasing its rich culture, natural beauty, and artistic commitment. The Chief Minister said this achievement would inspire aspiring young filmmakers of the state. The selection of Homebound could prove to be a milestone in Indian cinema, presenting Madhya Pradesh’s artistic and cultural heritage on the world stage. He expressed confidence that the film would also shine at the Oscars and bring glory to both India and Madhya Pradesh.
‘Homebound’ was shot in 2024, with major portions filmed in Bhopal and its surroundings, capturing natural, cultural, and urban landscapes. Its international acclaim reflects the state’s film-friendly policies and diverse shooting locations. Produced under the Dharma Productions banner by Karan Johar and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, who earlier earned acclaim for ‘Masaan’, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles.
New Tourism Policy Makes Filming Easier
The new Madhya Pradesh Film Tourism Policy has simplified approvals through a single-window system and provided subsidies that encourage filmmakers. Since its launch, more than 350 films and web series have been shot in the state. So far, 12 Hindi films, 1 Telugu film, and 6 web series have received financial incentives worth over ₹24 crore. Madhya Pradesh has also been honored with the “Most Film-Friendly State” Award by the Government of India.
