Former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott calls England’s performance in Brisbane a “horror show” as Australia takes a 2-0 lead in the Ashes 2025-26 series.
Former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has harshly criticized the England cricket team following their disappointing performance in the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 series. England suffered a crushing defeat against Australia in the second Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, where the hosts secured an eight-wicket win, taking a 2-0 lead in the series.
Boycott, known for his blunt commentary, described England’s display in Brisbane as a “horror show.” He highlighted the team’s poor batting, erratic bowling, and fielding errors, emphasizing that the side was underprepared despite claiming to have a strategic blueprint for the tour.
“Brisbane was a horror show: irresponsible batting, bowling too short, too wide or too full, and catches dropped. This Australian team was there to be beaten, but somehow, after just six days of Ashes cricket, England need a miracle. England talk the talk but can’t walk the walk. With this sort of batting and bowling, they couldn’t win an egg cup, let alone the Ashes urn,” Boycott wrote in his Telegraph column.

He further questioned England captain Ben Stokes and the team’s tactics, suggesting that the players’ lack of accountability has contributed to repeated failures. According to Boycott, the team seems insulated, rarely receiving honest feedback, which has led to strategic and technical shortcomings on the field.
“They are up their own backsides convinced that Test cricket has changed so much that only they know anything about the modern game… One of the problems with this squad is it appears nobody tells them off or sits them down and discusses what they could or should have done differently. All we ever hear from the captain is attack, and from the coach, keep the faith,” he added.
Australia’s dominance in Brisbane continues to raise concerns for England fans as the team heads into the remaining Tests of the series. Experts and former cricketers alike have highlighted that England needs a drastic turnaround to salvage pride and competitiveness in the ongoing Ashes.
England’s Path Forward
With two defeats already in hand, England must rethink their strategy, improve their batting stability, and tighten fielding efforts. Analysts believe that without significant changes in approach and mindset, Australia could continue to dominate the series.
