AAP MLA Chhatar Vasava meets farmers in Olgam, Gujarat, to oppose 1500 MW solar project. Calls for unity to protect tribal land, forests, and constitutional rights.
AAP MLA Chhatar Vasava met with farmers cultivating forest land in Olgam, Sagbara Taluka, and residents affected by the Ukai Dam’s solar project plotting. Speaking to the community, he highlighted growing concerns over the recently approved 1500 MW solar project. “When our people protested against this project, FIRs were filed against 18 individuals, and they were jailed. Now, we must unite,” Chhatar Vasava stated.
He emphasized that several large-scale projects, including the Saputara–Statue of Unity corridor, high-speed corridors, housing societies, and sanctuaries, are coming up. “For the sake of future generations, we must protect land and forests and ensure constitutional rights are preserved. Whenever the need arises, we must stand united. Whether it is Ukai or Kevadia, we will be present wherever tribal lands are threatened,” Vasava asserted.

Chhatar Vasava further urged the community to present a united front in Gandhinagar during the state assembly’s budget session. “We will not go there to fight anyone but to demonstrate unity and press our demands. Previously, on the post-matric scholarship issue, thousands of students joined me to stage a demonstration, which resulted in the government announcing the scholarship scheme. Similarly, we must continue to show unity to secure our rights.”
The MLA highlighted that tribal communities across Gujarat and other states are currently fighting for land and natural resources. “From Ambaji to Umargam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Manipur, tribal communities are asserting their rights. In Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Assam, struggles for water, forests, and land continue. In Hasdev forests, millions of hectares were handed over to mining projects in a single stroke. Last year in Bedapani village, 32 huts were demolished, residents beaten, and false FIRs filed by forest officials,” he explained.
Chhatar Vasava recounted incidents in Padlia where, under the pretext of plantation work, forest officials and police used force, including lathi charges, tear gas, and firing rounds, against tribal residents. “We must question the authority that allows the forest department to act in this manner. Industrialists influence leaders, who pressure officials to evict communities and seize land,” he added.
The AAP leader concluded with a call for solidarity: tribal communities must unite under one banner to protect constitutional rights, land, and forests, ensuring that the voices of future generations are safeguarded.
