Delhi government to allot thousands of EWS flats in 2025, providing safe and dignified homes for economically weaker families. CM Rekha Gupta announces accelerated housing scheme for better living standards.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major initiative for economically weaker section (EWS) families as the New Year approaches. Thousands of EWS flats are set to be allotted in the capital city, providing long-awaited housing to deserving families. The CM indicated that the government is accelerating the allocation process starting early 2025 to ensure that these families receive safe and dignified homes.
According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the EWS housing projects in Delhi are being developed not just as buildings, but as fully functional residential colonies. The government aims to provide secure, hygienic, and convenient living spaces for weaker section families, ensuring holistic development rather than just roofed accommodations.
Thousands Awaiting Flats
Government data reveals that between 2012 and 2020, around 7,620 EWS housing units were constructed. While a portion has already been allotted, 6,476 flats remain vacant. The New Year initiative will focus on handing over keys to eligible beneficiaries from these vacant units.
Focus on Completing Old Projects
Several EWS projects had remained incomplete during previous administrations. The current government has resumed these projects, approving repair and renovation work for around 2,500 vacant flats, with an estimated budget of ₹27.50 crore.
Developing Complete Colonies
The Delhi government emphasizes that providing flats alone is not enough. EWS colonies are being developed with essential amenities like education, healthcare, water, electricity, and sanitation. Schools, Anganwadi centers, primary healthcare facilities, and community infrastructure are being established to improve the living standards of residents.
Special Attention to Water, Parks, and Transport
EWS colonies, including areas like Sawda Ghevra, have received underground water tanks, booster stations, and overhead water tanks to ensure a steady supply. Around 39 residential parks covering over 22,000 square meters have been developed to promote recreation and greenery.
Connectivity and safety are also priorities. Bus stops, schools, and Anganwadi centers are provided within a 1.5 km radius, while metro stations, police posts, and police stations are within 3 km, ensuring residents’ convenience and security.
Enhanced Health and Education Infrastructure
The government plans to expand dispensaries, hospitals, and primary schools in EWS areas, reducing the distance residents must travel for healthcare and education, ultimately improving their quality of life.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stressed that the government’s vision extends beyond merely providing housing. The aim is to create an environment where EWS families can live safe, healthy, and self-reliant lives. This New Year initiative promises a fresh start and renewed hope for thousands of families across Delhi.
