New DGP Appointed in Haryana
On the very first day of 2026, Haryana welcomed a new Director General of Police (DGP). The government appointed 1992-batch IPS officer Ajay Singhal as the state’s DGP. His predecessor, O.P. Singh, had served as acting DGP for 79 days and retired on December 31, 2025.
Benefits for Employees
From January 2026, revised wage structures have been implemented across government departments, boards, corporations, and public sector undertakings. Districts previously divided into two categories have now been reorganized into three, directly benefiting approximately 1.2 lakh part-time, daily-wage, and contractual employees, who will see a salary increase.
Strict Steps for Environmental Protection
In a move aimed at reducing pollution in the National Capital Region and nearby areas, Haryana has banned new petrol and diesel vehicles in the fleets of online taxi aggregators, delivery service providers, and e-commerce companies starting January 1, 2026. This step follows directives from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
Major Bureaucratic Changes
2026 will also bring major reshuffles in Haryana’s bureaucracy. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi and 13 senior IAS officers are set to retire this year, including ACS-level officials Raja Shekhar Wundru, Arun Kumar Gupta, Secretary Abhilaksh Likhi, and Principal Secretary K.D. Suresh. Arun Kumar Gupta, currently Principal Secretary to CM Naib Singh Saini, is expected to be succeeded after his retirement, triggering administrative restructuring across departments.

Significant Update in the Agniveer Scheme
Another key change involves the Agniveer scheme. The first batch of Agniveers will complete their four-year tenure in July 2026. Under the Haryana Agniveer Policy 2024, the government has announced 10% reservation in public sector jobs, age relaxation, and additional benefits for these personnel.
Educational Reforms: AI in Schools
In education, Haryana has taken a progressive step. From the 2026-27 academic session, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking will be introduced from Class 3 in all schools. The move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), aiming to prepare students for technological advancements from an early stage.
Upcoming Rajya Sabha Elections
Politically, Haryana will witness elections for two Rajya Sabha seats on April 9, 2026, as the tenures of sitting MPs Ramchandra Jangra and Kiran Chaudhary end. Based on legislative strength, one seat is likely to go to the BJP and one to the Congress, with both parties strategizing ahead of the polls.
These seven major changes mark the start of a transformative year for Haryana, affecting governance, civic life, education, and employment, ensuring progress across sectors.
