BCB denies reports of Mustafizur Rahman IPL 2026 comeback. No discussions took place with BCCI amid T20 World Cup security concerns in India.
Mustafizur Rahman: In the midst of ongoing tensions between Bangladesh and India over cricket security issues, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam has denied reports claiming that the BCCI offered Mustafizur Rahman a comeback in IPL 2026.
The rumors, circulating in Bangladeshi media, suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was planning to reinstate the fast bowler after previously removing him from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad. The initial removal came amid widespread protests over his selection, following controversial circumstances in Bangladesh that sparked security concerns.
BCB President Refutes Comeback Rumors
Aminul Islam clarified the situation, stating that no discussions, verbal or written, had taken place between BCB and BCCI regarding Mustafizur Rahman’s return to the IPL. “I have not had any written or verbal discussions (with the BCCI) regarding Mustafizur’s return to the IPL. I have not spoken to anyone from my board about this. There is no truth to this news,” he was quoted as saying by Ajker newspaper.

This statement strongly denies claims that BCCI was attempting to ease tensions after BCB’s refusal to travel to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup matches.
T20 World Cup Venues Still Uncertain
The ongoing dispute has also left the T20 World Cup 2026 venues for Bangladesh unclear. The BCB has twice indicated its unwillingness to play matches in India, citing security and safety concerns for players. Bangladesh is scheduled to play its first three World Cup matches in Kolkata, with the final match set for Mumbai starting February 7, 2026.
Bangladesh sports advisor Asif Nazrul previously emphasized the security risks, stating, “Today, after reading the letter from the ICC, we understand that the ICC doesn’t fully realise the scale of the security issue regarding Bangladeshi cricketers in India. I believe it’s not only a matter of security but also of national humiliation.”
Nazrul added that the BCCI itself acknowledged the safety concerns by instructing KKR to leave Mustafizur out of their team, indicating the severity of the situation.
IPL 2026 Implications
With BCB’s firm stance, Mustafizur Rahman’s participation in IPL 2026 remains uncertain, and fans will need to wait for further official updates. The incident has added another layer to the ongoing debate over cricket diplomacy and player security between India and Bangladesh.
