Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini inaugurates ₹5.50 crore synthetic hockey ground and lays foundation for ₹8 crore all-weather swimming pool at Kurukshetra University, enhancing world-class sports facilities for Olympic hopefuls.
In a major boost for the state’s sporting ecosystem, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated a state-of-the-art synthetic hockey ground at Kurukshetra University, constructed at a cost of ₹5.50 crore under the Khelo India Scheme. The CM also laid the foundation stone for a new all-weather swimming pool project worth ₹8 crore, marking a significant milestone in Haryana’s efforts to provide world-class sports facilities to athletes.
Addressing the gathering of athletes and university officials, CM Nayab Singh Saini emphasized that Haryana is committed to nurturing sporting talent and providing the infrastructure required for athletes to compete and win medals at the Olympics and international platforms.
“The synthetic hockey ground will allow emerging players to train with world-class facilities, improving their performance on national and international stages. Through initiatives like the Khelo India Scheme, we aim to make Haryana the hub of sports excellence in India,” CM Nayab Singh Saini said.

The CM Nayab Singh Saini interacted with students and athletes at the university’s sports complex, even participating in a brief hockey session on the new synthetic turf alongside Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam. He highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent through sports nurseries, academies, and well-equipped training centres established across the state.
Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Somnath Sachdeva, shared that the synthetic hockey astroturf was developed with a total budget of ₹10 crore provided by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Out of this, ₹5.50 crore has been allocated for the hockey ground, while a multipurpose indoor sports hall will be constructed at a cost of ₹4.50 crore.
The Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini added that the upcoming all-weather swimming pool will further enhance Haryana’s capabilities in aquatic sports, providing athletes with modern training facilities to excel at the national and international levels.
“Investing in world-class sports infrastructure is crucial not only to develop elite athletes but also to inspire a new generation of players. Haryana has a proud history of producing Olympic medal winners, and with these facilities, our athletes will be even better prepared to bring glory to the country,” CM Nayab Singh Saini stated.
This initiative reaffirms the state government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure, nurturing talent, and positioning Haryana as India’s leading sports hub. The synthetic hockey ground and upcoming swimming pool will serve as key pillars in developing high-performance athletes across multiple sports disciplines.
