Delhi extends water bill LPSC waiver scheme till August 15, 2026. Pay pending dues now and get 100% relief on late payment charges.
In a major relief for Delhi residents, the Delhi government has extended the deadline for its Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) waiver scheme on water bills from January 31 to August 15, 2026. Water Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh announced the extension on Friday, highlighting the government’s commitment to helping domestic consumers clear pending dues while easing financial burdens.
The one-time amnesty scheme, initially launched in October 2025, allows domestic water users to waive off 100% of late payment surcharge if they settle the principal amount of their bills within the specified timeline. Earlier, paying by January 31 guaranteed full waiver, while payments made by March 31 qualified for only 70% relief.
Scheme Benefits and Consumer Response
Since the scheme’s rollout, more than 3,30,000 domestic consumers, accounting for over 20% of eligible users, have availed the benefits. Minister Singh stated that rebates worth Rs 1,493 crore have been disbursed so far, while the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has collected Rs 430 crore in principal dues.

However, the minister acknowledged that issues in the billing system prevented many consumers from accessing the benefits. “To ensure everyone can take advantage of the scheme, we have decided to extend the deadline till August 15,” Singh said.
Pending Dues and Recovery Targets
The total pending water bill amount in Delhi is estimated at Rs 11,000 crore, out of which the government aims to recover Rs 5,570 crore in principal amounts through this extended scheme. Currently, over 16 lakh domestic consumers have outstanding water bills.
Government Measures to Facilitate Payments
To make the process smoother, the Delhi government plans to set up special camps and water Lok Adalats where residents can resolve billing issues on the spot. Minister Singh urged citizens to come forward and pay their pending dues, emphasizing that the system is being upgraded to provide updated bills reflecting waived late charges.
“This extension comes after numerous requests from Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), public representatives, and residents,” he added. “We want to ensure that everyone willing to pay can easily do so without technical hurdles.”
The extended LPSC waiver scheme is expected to significantly boost collections, reduce pending water bills, and provide substantial financial relief to Delhi households.
