On Friday, January 30, 2026, the nation solemnly observed the 78th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes at Gandhi’s memorial at Rajghat, Delhi, honoring his enduring legacy of peace, truth, and non-violence.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several Union Ministers also joined the ceremony to remember Gandhi’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle. The dignitaries observed a two-minute silence in Gandhi’s memory, reflecting the nation’s respect and gratitude for his principles and life’s work.

An all-faith prayer meeting was held at the Rajghat memorial, where Gandhi’s favourite bhajans, including “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” were performed, creating a serene atmosphere that echoed his teachings of harmony and compassion.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also offered his respects at the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, paying homage to the man whose ideas of non-violence and truth inspired millions across the globe.
Mahatma Gandhi, born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence from British colonial rule. He was tragically assassinated by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948, in Delhi, but his teachings continue to guide the nation and the world.
The 78th Punyatithi serves as a reminder of Gandhi’s timeless message: that peace, non-violence, and truth remain the strongest forces to achieve social justice and harmony.
