Uttar Pradesh collected ₹18,515 crore in January 2026. Despite a slight drop in GST and mineral revenue, VAT, excise, stamp duty, and transport taxes compensated for the shortfall, ensuring steady fiscal growth.
The Uttar Pradesh government reported a total revenue collection of ₹18,515.52 crore for January 2026, marking an increase of ₹1,089.58 crore compared to the same period last year. While the state experienced a decline in GST and mineral revenue, other sources such as VAT, excise, stamp duty, and transport taxes compensated for the shortfall, according to Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna.
In a detailed press briefing, Minister Khanna highlighted that the cumulative revenue for the current financial year has risen by ₹9,557 crore, reflecting a positive trend despite challenges in GST collection.
GST Revenue Shows Slight Decline
The state’s GST collection for January 2026 stood at ₹7,161.95 crore, slightly lower than ₹7,167.29 crore collected in January 2025. This decline is attributed to ongoing GST reforms that have led to a gradual reduction in revenue inflows from the tax. In comparison, GST revenue until January of the previous year totaled ₹68,902.13 crore, whereas the current fiscal year has achieved ₹67,997.73 crore.

Other Taxes Drive Growth
Revenue from VAT, excise duties, stamp duty, and transport taxes played a crucial role in maintaining overall growth. VAT collection increased from ₹2,797.32 crore to ₹2,816.47 crore, excise revenue rose sharply from ₹3,356.26 crore to ₹4,122.19 crore, and stamp duty collections grew from ₹2,511.11 crore to ₹2,748.74 crore. Transport tax also showed improvement, rising from ₹1,110.83 crore to ₹1,219.38 crore. Mineral-related income saw a small decline, from ₹483.13 crore to ₹446.79 crore.
Fiscal Overview
Cumulative revenue for the first ten months of the current financial year reached ₹1,78,556.43 crore, compared to ₹1,68,999.72 crore in the previous year. The growth demonstrates the state government’s ability to balance declining GST receipts with other reliable revenue sources, ensuring financial stability and adequate funding for development projects.
Finance Minister Khanna emphasized that despite minor shortfalls in certain tax streams, Uttar Pradesh continues to maintain robust revenue growth, driven by strategic fiscal management and a diversified tax structure.
